Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: March 17th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. It’s 59 heading for 75 today. Mostly sunny which is very good since there’s only one other sunny day in the 10-day forecast so we need to add a lot more cushion. Yesterday we generated 18.28 KWHs and the m-t-d at 267.8 is still on track – but 400 is still a long way off.

    Since I still had some of my tax refund I went to the bank yesterday while I was out getting milk. Today is actual Social Security payday for me but I can verify it hit by phone. The only thing I have to go there for is cash. So I won’t be going out today. Still nervous/worrying about being able to get Bobbie into the carrier tomorrow for the vet visit. I will be so very glad when (positive thinking) that’s done. Anyway, haven’t heard anything from anybody so that’s probably good. Off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  2. Good morning, 41 and cloudy outside my windows today. Looks like I’ve been absent for a few days. Nothing has happened, just going to PT, doing my exercise routine carefully at home, and trying to focus on what I can do vs what I can’t. Best wishes to all.

  3. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 62 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 72. Sunny skies are in the forecast. Steadily rising temperatures through Saturday and then a precipitous drop on Sunday morning. It seems well past the time when we have full spring temperatures. I am not longing for temperatures in the 110s again but some upper 70s would be nice.

    I am still working on some early morning projects that I need to complete but I wanted to at least check in.

    See all y’all later!

  4. Thursday Meese. Yikes! It’s 19 degrees here in Kingston, only going up to 32 and the NWS says we will have snow on Saturday.

    For a change of pace – I’ve been looking at racism in the UK instead of our home grown crap which I’ll be looking at later today in Caribbean Matters

  5. Good morning. Yesterday I did 4 rounds of 6 minutes running, with 2 minutes walking — the treadmill definitely helps. This morning was just a 30 minute walk. Loving how everyone is mocking tfg about not being able to pay the bond. And where are favorite kids Jared & Ivanka? Couldn’t they front him the money?

  6. Oh, hey – there’s another match for the AIDS Ride today, noon central. Diary going up at the orange place at 11am.

  7. It’s 52 heading for 69 and sunny at the moment. Widget says cloudy shortly and it’s probably right as I can see a lot of gray to the northwest. But I hope not. Yesterday we generated 16.8 KWHs and the m-t-d at 284.6 is on track and gaining ground. IF we can get another 16 today we’ll reach 300 by sundown.

    In a little over an hour I need to get Bobbie in the carrier & take him to the vet. Petitioning every goddess I can think of and a whole lot more whose names I don’t know that I manage it. Meanwhile I’d best get to my boosting. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

    • Didn’t manage to get Bobbie in the carrier. So I took Rennie. At least one cat in this house is current on his rabies shot.

  8. Good morning, 41 and light clouds. If nothing changes Marcus will be here to prune the hedge this morning, Sue will clean the house this afternoon, and I will stay out of their way :) Feeling very grateful for their assistance. Best wishes to all.

  9. Good morning, meeses! Thursday …

    It is 60 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 75. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    I did a pretty good job of getting my to-do stack organized this morning and now I have to actually do the thinks on the list.

    See all y’all later!

  10. Good morning. Made it to 3 rounds of 6 minutes running, which isn’t bad for non-treadmill running. We have super-thick fog, I’m glad I head into the office before there’s much traffic. Raised a few dollars for the AIDS Ride yesterday — 2 contributions were matched, and I got one for $250!! I’m close enough to $2,000 raised that I’m going to do a push to hit that number. Anyway, happy Friday, y’all.

  11. Friday Meese. Temp is has now gone up to 25 here in Kingston. Brrr. They say it will be 39 later and snow predicted for tomorrow.

    Puerto Rico:

    I need more info on this – it does not look good:

  12. It’s 52 heading for 67 and overcast. Widget says it’s raining but it’s not. Widget also shows only one fully sunny day through the end of the month. Yesterday certainly wasn’t one. We generated 9.4 KWHs. The m-t-d at 294 is still on track for 400 and even still has a little cushion. But not much.

    Yesterday’s excitement was trying to catch Bobbie. I just hope he didn’t hurt himself fighting out of the towel I foolishly threw over him thinking I could hold him that way. Between the towel and the heavy sweater I was wearing I only picked up 2 minor scratches/puncture wounds. But this morning as Bobbie and Rennie were wrestling as they usually do in the mornings, Bobbie broke of suddenly and walked away growling. Leaving a very puzzles Rennie looking after him. Having been an outdoor cat when he was little he knows not to show weakness, so he ran around the living room a couple of times & batted the mousey a bit. But he kept away from the other cats. And of course he’s not going to let me anywhere within grabbing distance. Sigh.

    I haven’t heard anything from anybody. Which is probably good. I know it’s good as far as my family is concerned. Other than my older son, I hear from family maybe on my birthday or if something’s wrong. Anyway, off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  13. Good freezing Friday morning, Moosekind! It’s had the decency to rise to 41 F. from what it was when we woke up this morning. We’re being treated to pale blue skies and pale sunlight. We must enjoy it while we can, for later this afternoon the clouds will roll in and it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow. If it really does, it’ll put out the wildfires that have been creating the haze in the air.

    Yesterday I had to rush off to my old stomping grounds, first to the Oak Hill post office, then to La Madeleine in Reston. Drove by our old house, as I always do: the new owners have planted conifers in the front under the overhang, which will completely block the light at the lower level. Perhaps it won’t matter, as they don’t have children who would need a playroom.

    Something mildly funny: I mentioned how I wore the red wig to rehearsal Monday night, pretending to be Natasha. Well, at rehearsal on Wednesday the Director looked at me and said, “Glad it’s you and not that awful Russian woman.” I grinned, but Natasha will reappear one day—most likely when the cobalt-blue beret arrives.

    Today I’m wearing the Laundry Shirt, but will change before rehearsal to the one that says: “I came. I saw. I forgot what I came for.”

    La Madeleine is halfway between our respective dwellings, so my last remaining Circle Sister and I met for lunch, as I mentioned. I arrived early enough to score a table by the fireplace, where a fake fire burned cheerfully on fake logs. We had a most enjoyable lunch. She gave me a Nimbus 2024 broomstick. It hasn’t been activated yet, so I can’t actually fly anywhere on it, but that’s OK. Got other things on my mind right now.

    That’s enough from me, Moosekind! Hope all at the Pond will have a wonderful day!

  14. Good morning, 47 and cloudy in Bellingham today. I have a hair cut this morning, and a well overdue appointment with my desk this afternoon. The piles of paper are overwhelming, bills need to be paid, and the puzzle of why the printer and computer are not communicating needs to be solved. Not what I want to be doing, but there’s no walking involved so no excuses! Best wishes to all.

  15. Good morning, meeses! Friday …

    It is 64 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. Sunny skies are in the forecast for most of the day with a chance of a stray cloud later this afternoon.

    The government will stay open if the Senate does not have members blocking the quick passage of the bill that the House passed. Fingers crossed – a lot of people need the government to stay open. Maybe they should tell the Senators that March Madness will be shut down if they don’t pass it, perhaps they will care. It sounds like the right-wing MAGAt House Members want to boot Pastor Johnson – maybe enough Republicans will see how awful this is and vote for Speaker Jeffries. It’s time.

    The Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team won their First Four tournament game, insuring that they will have one more game. If they win their game against Syracuse, they will have to get past UConn in order to advance.

    Busy day here again but my hard deadlines have been met and I can coast through the weekend or at least through tomorrow.

    See all y’all later

  16. Saturday Meese. My local weather says it is snowing outside – it isn’t, it’s raining.

    “Let the People decide! Next Monday we begin the Day for Democracy with a demonstration in front of the State Election Commission in Hato Rey starting at 11am. We are going to defeat the corrupt two-party system in the courts, at the polls and in the streets”

  17. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 53 degrees in Tucson 🌵 with an expected daytime high of 79. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies but it probably depends a lot on how close one is to the mountains. Today might be a good day for a hike.

    Hahahahaha! Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin is sick of the House and is leaving early. He is the guy who got on TV and pleaded with tRump to call off his goons attacking the Capitol on January 6th. That it took so long for him to get tired of his MAGAt cohorts, their election denialism and their January 6th denialism is a permanent blemish on his soul. Staying this long to make sure his donors get tax breaks, his polluting fossil fuel pals have free reign to destroy the planet, and that the poors keep suffering is terrible. Someone who really cared about democracy would declare himself an independent, caucus with the Democrats and elect Hakeem Jeffries Speaker of the House. Good riddance. His seat will be won by a more MAGAtty Republican, his district is full of them, but as we have seen, it makes no difference. Republicans vote in lockstep – there is not a whit of difference between them. Fk them all with a rusty anvil.

    The government has shut down because both houses of Congress are held hostage to the Republican Party – one by the majority party and one by the ridiculous Senate rules that allow a Rand Paul or a JD Vance or a Ron Freaking Johnson to block a vote on a bill that the majority is in favor of. I hope the shutdown is short and that people who have holiday travel plans about to be disrupted remember who did it to them. They won’t, of course. They don’t even remember that Republicans attempted a bloody coup in 2021.

    I have a quiet day that I am going to use to get caught up on a few things. I have some March 31st deadlines and time is running out to get those done.

    See all y’all later!

  18. Good morning. Got a lot done already: took a book donation to my church’s Saturday lunch program, got groceries, started laundry. Whew. Ready for a nap. Watching the news, later I’ll cook and give the 6 minute running thing one more try. Next week is 7 x3  plus 3 at the end. I see the Republicans are helping us get Speaker Jeffries that much sooner. Thanks, Marge.
