Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Sept. 24th through Sept. 30th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. Another warm, rainy day. Oatmeal. Tea. So, Tom Price is going to pay back a tiny fraction of the private jet money. Mmmm-kay. This administration full of grifters, I really don’t know how we’ll recover. Of course, all these people have been thieves for their whole lives, so being in government just means their theft is more visible. Interesting statement from Twitter. Looks like they are trying to fight the bots. Don’t know why I’m thinking about Michael Hutchence today, but here’s a concert video from a more innocent time 1985. If I had a time machine & could go back, would that be enough time to save the world, or would I need to go back further?

    • I happened to be walking by my TV this morning while the news was on and saw tRump turn his back on a reporter and storm off after she asked him about Price’s trips. He is NOT happy!! I would like to see Price fired – it is going to be more and more difficult to staff his cabinet as his administration gets more toxic. He had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to begin with and went with people who had no souls to risk blemishing. Only Neil Gorsuch is happy to be associated with the shitgibbon because he has a lifetime seat on the highest court in the land and fk the little people. In a just world, the universe would adjust “lifetime” to correct for egregious mistakes. Absent that, my hope is that Chief Justice John Roberts has remorse for his post-racial comment and becomes the anti-Gorsuch, cancelling out the vote of the man who got his seat because of the court’s assault on voters rights. It is our only hope for decency to survive the Trump years.

  2. 52 at just after dawn heading for 75 and sunny at the moment. Got 8.8 KWHs yesterday and the m-t-d is at 389 – with a good day of sunshine we’ll crest 400 by the end of the day. We’re at least ahead of last year’s 384. (No way to make 2015’s 458 of course, but I’m happy with anything over 400.)

    That 10-day waiver of the Jones Act is the Rs all over – do something that looks good to get the phone lines to go dark, then continue with their evil. If there had been a fleet of ships waiting 3-miles or so out AND the military were in place with temporary docks and transportation set up to move stuff inland quickly this could move Puerto Rico from Crises to “just” critical – but there’s not. Most if not all the waiver time will be used just getting the ships from where they are to Puerto Rico. The Rs are Evil. No two ways about it.

    Thanks mostly to one person – a whole lot of thanks to that one person – several people will be coming off my urgent list and some are coming of the list entirely. Blessings, blessings, and more blessings! And I have been heaving large sighs of relief. I’ve got a lot of editing I am most happy to be doing for my Sharing Saturday diary tomorrow! :)

    Gotta get to work. Stuff I’ve been trying to get to since Monday is still sitting on my desk. I’ve got to get it done today! So. Check in at the Villages, then get to it. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good morning, 62 and raining in Bellingham. I still have my window open but the breeze is chilly and the air smells like fall. I’ll go to the pool this morning, have a haircut this afternoon, and in between I’ll mutter about the reality of what I thought I would get done this week and what’s actually been accomplished. Apparently I need to write a reality based list!

    Take care everyone.

  4. Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

    It is 43 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 66. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Tom Price is out and while it is satisfying to see another horrible human being removed from this horrible administration, people should not celebrate. Another horrible person will be put in charge of dismantling the department charged with insuring the health and well being of humans in America. The problem is not the people put in charge but the ideology that drives them to seek out ways to preserve their wealth by any means possible, including letting the sick die and the hungry starve. Bastid out, new bastid in.

    By the way, calling Puerto Rico “Trump’s Katrina” misses a very large point. The Republican base does not want to help black people or brown people recover from national disasters. Katrina harmed Bush because there were still enough decent people in the Republican Party to feel shame at the images coming out of New Orleans and demand action from Congress. There will be no pressure on Republican Congressmen and Senators to help Puerto Rico and there will be no price to pay at the polls in their tightly gerrymandered districts. We can still win back the House but those expecting a wave election need to curb their enthusiasm. Surgical strikes in vulnerable R+5 to D+5 Republican held districts and winning a bare majority. Don’t get giddy, get your neighbors voter ids and get them to the polls.

    The Fighting Back will not post until tomorrow morning. I will be gone this morning and have a project that has to be dated in September and this is it, last day!

    See all y’all later!

  5. A cloudy Saturday morning, 62 degrees and rain on the way here in Saugerties NY. Up early, pounding out another Puerto Rico diary for GOS.
    Will post at about 6:30 AM EST
    Watching the Donal lie about PR is making me ill.
    He is getting called out

    New York has strong ties to PR

  6. Slept in — and was actually asleep when the alarm went off. Don’t need to cook this weekend, just thawing stuff from the freezer. Going to the gym. Wonder what amazing thing Joy Reid will do this morning. I still have the HRC interview on my dvr, to rewatch. All the MSNBC people last night spent a lot of time on Puerto Rico. Glad the word is getting out, sick that it took so long.

  7. 52 this morning – lit the first fire of the season although I’m probably going to let it go out about mid morning. May or may not relight it this evening but definitely will in the morning. That’s the nice part of weekends (and I guess retirement) – I’m home long enough in the morning to light a fire and have it warming the house. On workdays I either put on a sweater or crank up the furnace a bit when I get up (and try to remember to turn it back down before I leave). Yesterday got 13.9 KWHs and hope to do the same today. The m-t-d is 403 so there’s a minor W00T! – better than 2016, not as good as 2015.

    I have to stay angry – not shocked or surprised because I’m not – but appalled and angry at the Rs and their Evil. Otherwise I’d fall into a pit of Depression so deep I wouldn’t take care of myself and would only take care of the cats because they’d very vocally insist on it. They are murderers by willful neglect and proud of it. That’s Evil. Capital E. So we Resist, block, push back – and take back Congress by whatever margin we can squeak out. And get our very experienced Leadership circumventing R evil as quickly as possible.

    Fundraiser stuff is going well, which is a blessing, largely thanks to one person but seeing stuff move has gotten other people to help as well. That is the way of it. Prime the pump. Open the Channel of Good – and remove as much blockage as possible for a strong, clear flow of Good to fulfill All Things Needful both Spiritual and Material.

    Got some end of the month stuff to do both on and off line but I’ll check DK – the Village and Denise’s diaries – before I get to it. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  8. Good morning, 53 and cloudy in Bellingham. The frustration and anger I’m feeling right now has rendered me mute! I’m determined to keep my small life as happy and safe as I can, but this morning it seems selfish. How I wish I could do more to ease the hurt tRump and his evil followers are inflicting on so many people.

    Take care everyone.
