Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: October 23rd

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Saturday morning, Meese. Can you believe it’s almost the end of October? Right now it’s 45 F. on a glorious blue-and-gold day. The high will be 63 F. Pretty soon I’ll have to take Mandy out for her morning walk. Dearly is supposed to do it—in fact the exercise and fresh air that are part of a walk was why we adopted Mandy—but he’s too ill. He had another rotten night, so is sleeping on the bed I stripped this morning, not realizing he’d want a nap. Today is change-the-sheets day.

    I suppose it is anxiety that’s making me eat so much because I am pounds over where I want to be, according to the scales. Let’s hope the morning and afternoon walks are helping because I just don’t have time to go to the gym.

    Today I need to do the stuff that didn’t get done yesterday. Loudoun County wrote me a letter demanding money for Monty’s dog license. I’ll answer it this morning and tell them he died. Mandy has a dog license from Maryland and her rabies shot is good for a year.

    Feeling appalled about the attempted assassination! Dear Goddess. It was Defeated Former Guy that gave people the idea that they could do whatever they liked with impunity. After all, didn’t he say that he could “shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it”? I wish Madame Speaker had SS protection at home, although considering their dereliction of duty re the threats on January 6, I don’t know how effective they’d be.

    We received a visit from the Halloween Bunny this morning. Good thing the grandchildren are coming tomorrow! There will be all sorts of goodies for them. Speaking for myself, I loathe Reese’s peanut butter candies. Chocolate and peanut butter have no business posing as a treat. Peanut butter is for sandwiches. So there!

    Heard Jack Dorsey is testing a Twitter alternative called BlueSky. As soon as I find out how to get on the waiting list to join, I’ll do it.

    Wishing a good day to everyone at the Pond!

    • I wondered if some of the Twitter executives who got what is reported as a $200 million buyout, along with the sale of their stocks, would do something. If Musk let them all go without a non-compete agreement, he is even stupider than he seems!

  2. It’s 54 heading for 62, overcast and off-and-on raining. The clouds moved in yesterday afternoon. We generated 4.7 KWHs and the m-t-d is 217.44 – we’re not going to make it even to last year’s 237. sigh.

    Sinusitis again last night. My best sleep was between 6 and 8:15. But at least I can sleep that late. Feeling creaky as well as groggy but that’s the change in humidity and barometric pressure. Possibly breakfast, which I’m in the process of eating, will help the grogginess. Anyway, I’d best get to twitter to do my boosting. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good morning, 53 and mostly cloudy outside my window today. I hope to re pot 2 trees on the patio today. I’ve got a good plan, just need to get started. RonK is tending to his land trust plot now so if I can make a big enough mess before he gets back he’ll be more motivated to help me finish! Best laid plans do go astray to I’ll see what happens.

    Best wishes to all.
