Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: August 13th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good morning, Meese! ‘Tis a sunny summer Saturday, perfect for drying the dog beds and blankets, not to mention the fringe-chewed afghans, that I plan to wash and dry on the screened porch.

    While that’s going on I’ll be trying to memorize my part in the play and working on my short story, which is due August 31. This afternoon there’s a meeting of the Drama Club, during which we’ll be doing improvs, and tonight at 7 in the theatre next door, there will be a showing of “Charley Wilson’s War.” I wouldn’t be interested in that, except that one of my writers was assigned to look after Charley Wilson back in the day. He had a habit of trying to get out of his hotel room so he could go visit ladies of the night, even though Egyptian guards were posted outside his hotel room door.

    Had a GOOD night for a change, so feeling quite fine. Back to the washing!

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond and I hope princesspat will be OK from the hurricane.

    • I think the hurricane will be a tropical storm going through Nevada (!) and is unlikely to hit her. But who knows? Crazy climate is crazy.

    • Hi Diana, it’s calm and quiet in my garden today, just smoke in the air from the fires burning in British Columbia. Thanks for thinking about us.

  2. It’s 80 heading for 100 and sunny. Summer’s back. Yesterday we generated 15.6 KWHs and the m-t-d at 267 is almost back on track for 460.

    Fineena slept in the new place last night. A/C & no mice. Nice. There are still boxes at the old place that couldn’t fit in the filled POD which is being moved today. She should have people coming to deal with the last of the boxes and also to unload once the POD is moved. More coming tomorrow to get the rest of the stuff out of the POD. All this labor jackaround is eating the funds we raised but she’s still got some to work with. The woman who was supposed to be very good with packing fragile stuff turned out to be very good at throwing out stuff she didn’t think Karen needed. So Karen wasted her day following the woman around saving what she could. Heaven knows what that family has thrown out that she wanted. And packed what she didn’t want. No logic whatsoever. She handed one of them the mouse poison to spread out in the POD to kill any passengers and the fool packed it instead. But it’ll be over soon. The POD is supposed to go back to the company Monday. The moving & unloading finished by Sunday night. Then she can rest. At least after she’s found her clothes, towels, and kitchenware.

    The humidity isn’t pleasant but the breeze was nice so I opened up for a few hours. Long enough to cook breakfast and chocolate pudding for the next several days’ dessert. LOL. Now I’d best get onto my boosting chores. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  3. Good morning, 72 and sunny outside my window today. The air is a bit smoky from the fires burning in BC but thankfully there are no extreme weather threats here. Our son and Elsa stopped by for a visit so we have had a lively morning. She is a sweet but full of energy and loves to play so I’ve got dog hair to clean up. But being with her is fun so a bit of clean up is ok. Per usual I’ve got laundry and gardening tasks underway so that will be my focus for the rest of today. Best wishes to all.
