Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: January 28th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good Saturday morning, Meese! We’re having blue skies and sunshine in Ashburn, although it’s still a bit windy. Right now the temp. is 37 F., going up to 45 F. or something. We’re going to have a week in the 50s next week. Also, the sun will set at 5:31 today!

    Yesterday the Director’s email was hacked so we didn’t have rehearsal. I’m sorry for the director, but dear Goddess, not having to go to rehearsal was like getting out of jail. Although I would never say this to anyone in the Drama Club, I disapprove of the whole concept of “Oklahoma!” All this about “We know we belong to the land/And the land we belong to is grand!” Uh-huh. How about all the Natives who got pushed off the “grand land” into reservations? It’s like the Highland Clearances. And I don’t like the lyrics of “All Er Nuthin'” either, with my raging 21st-century feminist perspective.

    But enough of that. Today is Snowmageddon Child’s 14th birthday. His mother texted that great-nephew B. loved his movie trivia game, a present from his Aged Aunt, and the birthday check (that’s made out to his mother and goes right into his college fund). Anyway, they were playing the movie trivia game at breakfast.

    I have to do something on the Internet. We never received Dearly’s form 1099 for SS in the mail and we can’t do our taxes without it. We kept hoping it was misdelivered or went out at a different time or something, but now I really will have to take strong measures.

    I want to organize my two big projects so that all I have to do is grab them and go, rather than looking for them all over the place. In other news, Cousin F. signed the legal papers, so now there won’t be an expensive probate process to settle our Aunt’s estate! That’s nice.

    Wishing all at the Pond a good day!

  2. It’s 53 going to 58 and overcast. It’s supposed to be raining but it’s not. It might later. It’s predicted for all day. Yesterday we generated 9.89 KWHs and the m-t-d is 19.19 – was on track for 200. Probably won’t be by end of today.

    Fineena’s rent is NOT paid and the bank’s unhelpful automated helpline tells her there’s an overdraft but doesn’t tell her what or why. Before Fineena wrote that rent check she talked to an actual person at the bank (couldn’t reach one yesterday) who said the money was there and there was nothing outstanding. So now she gets to wait until Monday when she, hopefully, can reach a human being again and find out what happened.

    Hands are cold & tremors are unhelpful. Nothing new there. I’m off to start my boosting day. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  3. Good morning, 43 and partly cloudy in my garden today. I’ve got a few primroses to plant and a lot of dead leaves to clean up. So if I can finish the must do tasks this morning I’ll have a nice afternoon. Best wishes to all.
