Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: November 26th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 46 degrees in the Desert Southwest with an expected daytime high of 64. Mostly cloudy skies with a chance for rain.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

    • Also, too, nearly full moon (99% illumination) in the western sky bathing the landscape with light. She will be full tomorrow morning at 2:16am MST.

  2. Good Sunday Meese. 27 degrees here in Kingston.
    Not much to share today from Puerto Rico

    Some Ceiba history:

  3. Good morning. Last night’s music diary was hoppin’. I got a lot done yesterday, most important thing is lunch for the next several weeks. Now I’m watching the news, enjoying the smell of my steeping tea. Setting out clothes for tomorrow — it’ll be in the 30s overnight, brrr!

  4. It’s 30, windchill 20, and overcast but trying to clear off. It rained last night and there’s a film of ice on exposed stuff. Yesterday we generated 6.5 KWHs. The m-t-d’s at 138 and we’ve 5 production days left in November. The least we’ve ever done with the 4K system was 165. At least we’re doing better than the 114 the 2.5K system did.

    Sunday cleaning chores are done. My hands and back are of course complaining. Time to get started on my boosting chores. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  5. Good morning, 33 and foggy outside my windows today. Weather permitting my sister will arrive for a visit today. She is driving from New Mexico and they have been trying to avoid snow storms so we’ll see what happens today. My old legs are not doing well so walking is a challenge, as is accepting the reality of limited mobility. Oh well, I’ll do the best I can with this years holiday plans and that will have to be good enough. Best wishes to all.

  6. Monday Meese. 39 atm and snow flurries predicted.

  7. In the office Monday. Ugh. Did my mile, it is really cold, but I bundled up and did it. No one is scheduled off today, I wonder how many will actually show up. Anyway, I’m here, eating my overnight oats. And I’ve got to start writing my Bookchat for Wednesday. Yikes.

  8. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 48 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 66. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast with a slight chance for rain.

    I am going to extend my light news reading until the end of the month. I am behind on some accounting projects that have a hard deadline and I really can’t pause to read the news. It is mostly breathless headlines about Biden’s polls and the inevitability of a second tRump presidency. I have no time for such nonsense in any event.

    See all y’all later!

  9. It’s 26 heading for 50 and sunny today. Yesterday we generated 6.38 KWHs and the m-t-d is at 144 with 4 generating days left in November. For some reason the inverter isn’t sending data to my computer this morning. I do hope it fixes itself because whoever currently owns SolarEdge they don’t do customer service worth diddly. Unlike the original owners who were great at it.

    My hands are definitely not happy with the cold and neither are my feet. Oh well. Nothing new about that. Or much of anything else. Except that my son has decided to try his hand a making gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free chocolates. He brought me some yesterday – vanilla, almond, and coconut – and while they’re way too sweet for my particular tastes they’re quite good.

    Anyway, my hands are making me a bit slow today so I’d best get to it. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  10. Guten montag morgen, Moosekind! Just watched the wind swirling a multitude of leaves off the trees in either a leaf-dance or a leaf storm. Then three birds riding thermals flapped their wings against a cold blue sky, lovely to watch. It’s 45 F. here in Ashburned, going up to 51 F. later today. Whereas parts of our area received the showers predicted for yesterday, we in this area did not.

    Sundays are always so busy with cooking. Yesterday I went to Trader Joe’s fairly early to avoid the holiday mob scene, and triumphantly bore my purchases home. We had a very nice dinner last night, much better than the pedestrian dishes served here. (First world problem, I know.)

    In the afternoon I was able to complete one chore: wrote thank-you notes to the cousins who worked to make my late aunt’s life tolerable and are now engaged in winding up her affairs—emptying and selling the house she loved. Must get on with my Christmas newsletter soon.

    Two things I haven’t done that must be attended to: ordering more nonalky wine from the vineyard in California (the darlings deliver it right to my door), going to the gym. This business of leaving the workout until 4 p.m. isn’t working, so I’m going as soon as I’m dressed this morning. This afternoon I have a memorial service to attend.

    Petunia report: still alive. Mint: Used some of it yesterday to cook with the green peas we had for dinner, along with lettuce, salt, and butter.

    Today began beautifully, with Dearly bringing me early morning tea in bed. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  11. Good morning, 33 and frosty outside my windows today. My sister arrived as planned yesterday so we’ll bake cookies this afternoon. We’ll do some party prep everyday so this week will be busy. I hope to get a Christmas tree in place too but that may be a bit ambitious. Best wishes to all.

  12. Tuesday Meese. My weather says it is snowing and 31 degrees – but I see no snow, hope it holds off!

    Puerto Rico

  13. Cold morning here, 40s might not be cold where you are, but it is for us. So glad I have these 2 wfh days. Watching astronomy. Will walk later when it’s a little warmer.

  14. Good frozen Tuesday morning, Meese! It’s 37 F. in Ashbeaned this morning and won’t rise much higher. Gusty (or gutsy?) winds will begin soon. As far as I’m concerned, they already have: last night I covered up Miss Petunia and Minty with newspapers and a towel, but this morning the wrappings are all over the porch. Bummer.

    Have a multitude of chores to do, as usual. Still have to meet my Friday deadline, yikes! However, exercise and getting my hair done come first this morning.

    It’s a lovely, sunny day. Oh, I saw the Moon last night! Saw Her Saturday night when She was nearly full and again last night. Herself was silvery and shivery, I thought. Met a couple of neighbors on my way back from mooning around the parking lot, so told them I didn’t know whether the twinkly gold object near Her was the space station or Jupiter. They recommended downloading SkyView, free from the App store. You point it at the object in the sky and it identifies it for you. Cool!

    Dearly is going to drop me off at the barbershop while he goes to the grocery store. Wishing a nice day to all at the Pond!

    • Ha! “Gusty (or gutsy?) winds will begin soon.”

      One time the National Weather Service text notification had a typo and called the winds “GUTSY WINDS”. Ever since then, I occasionally call them “gutsy” which is a bit whimsical – “those winds do not care about your feelings and will just blow fiercely and without fear!”

  15. It’s 28 heading for 55 and sunny again. Yesterday we generated 6.75 KWHs and the m-t-d at 151 is at least better than I feared last week.

    One of the lovely things about clear skies is I actually get to see the moon. This time of the moon cycle I leave my curtains open just a bit so the moonlight can creep across my bed as she travels across the western part of the sky. And say “Good Morning” to her when I get up and open the curtains all the way. I send my love to folks far away by way of the moon.

    The “outside world” is depressing and deadly and evil. And mostly all I can do is boost folks pleas for help. But I can do that so that’s what I do. And had best get to it. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

      Thank you, dear bfitz!

  16. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 52 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 72. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast. It was overcast this morning and there was no moonlight when I visited my patio but last night she was spectacular over the mountains and looked like she was sitting in the clouds as if they were the goddess’ hands.

    I started the day with full intentions to get my accounting work done and got sidetracked to three client issues that required computer work to be done before the workday began. So now I have to figure out how to do the accounting with emails and urgent requests barraging me. I may have to drink caffeinated beverages to work into the afternoon.

    See all y’all later!

      • The mountains and the changing position of the sun, the moon and the stars create a long running feature movie – on a loop! This time of year, the sun is very far to the south which makes the moonrise very far to the north. The various mountain peaks that she rises between change with the cycle of the earth. I could not be more delighted by where I have ended up and hope to be able to stay here for a good long time.

  17. Good morning, meeses! Wednesday …

    It is 48 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 68. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Check in, check out. It is a busy “two days left in November” morning.

    See all y’all later!

  18. Wednesday Meese.
    Spent half of yesterday at the doctor – had some tests and a Cat Scan – he assures me that all the cancer nodes on my brain are gone. The radiation worked! I will be starting radiation on the lung in a few days

    Puerto Rico

  19. Another cold morning here. Supposed to be storms tomorrow. Watching astronomy, this show about searching for Planet 9 is one of my favorites. Grateful for my 2 wfh days, and that our new manager believes in wfh.
