Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Feb. 26th through Mar. 4th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (every Sunday morning). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

  1. It is already over 70 this morning. I wore sandals & capris today. It breaks my heart for the earth. And if this is February, what will July be like?? Not gonna watch the Orange Beast tonight. Will watch Lucifer off my dvr instead. Would rather have a devil that actually loves humans & wants to have a bit of fun on my TV than one who hates humanity & may kill us all. Ok, turning up the U2 in my head, has one song playing till I looked for a video & youtube had the live Streets one sitting right there — the rooftop in Los Angeles thing. I miss the ‘80s.

    • I’m not watching either – will follow the responses on twitter – will have my TV on – tuned to the food channel or comedy – since it will only deduct from his ratings if your set is on.

      • I did not know that TV rating fact…I’ll be sure to have ours on. Will watch cartoons, and follow Twitter for the speech highlights.

  2. Good morning, Meese! It’s an absolutely gorgeous morning here in NoVa, with blue skies, sunshine, the lot. Current temp. is 39 F., going up to 67 F. It may rain tonight. When I picked up Miss Pink Cheeks from Chess Instruction yesterday, I saw forsythia in bloom at one corner of the school. In February!

    Not much to say, except to my extreme annoyance I can’t find the printouts of the stick-on address labels I typed for Paulie Ryan. Wanted to send him a postcard a day.

    Still feeling less than 100 percent but better than yesterday. We have to take my car in for autobody repairs after someone sideswiped me in a parking lot. After that I may go for a walk if I feel up to it. Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  3. 63 going to 75 and cloudy so far today. If i’m lucky I’ll end the month with over 260 KWHs. It’s at 256 but no production yet – it’s that dark. No rain, just dark. Foreshadowing the time change I guess. Back’s still bunged up. Not acute and I’m functional, but definitely not at my best (or even at my good). I’ve got a chiropractic appt for in the morning and am on the cancellation list. We shall see what we shall see.

    Too wrapped up in my fundraisers to think political right now. (gtghawaii and slksfca were both fully funded yesterday. YAY!!) Well, that and the back pain. But I’m not in nearly as bad a shape as snoopydawg or The Marti (community quilt drive started for her yesterday) so I’ll keep trucking along and get there eventually.

    Need to get some work done. The kind I’m paid for. heh. Bright the day and wind to thy wings, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  4. Good morning, 31 and cloudy in Bellingham. The branches of my old maple trees are covered with snow. It’s beautiful outside but I’m snowed in again, waiting for rain. My sewing room is cozy and I have lots to do, but the garden shop has primroses and they are calling my name!

    Best wishes to all.

  5. We have a King Cake, and I got the Baby Jesus. This means I am queen for the day. Not really sure what that means. But — yay.

  6. Good Wednesday morning / Tuesday afternoon to all Meeses. It’s 77 degrees (24 degrees Celsius) in Singapore and raining, which is very normal. Going through immigration and then to my mom’s place.

  7. Hidey ho there neighbors, it’s a chilly 44 degrees here in SoCal. Cold for us but looking forward to sun and warm weather in the next couple of days. ;)

  8. Hola Meese March 1
    53 degrees here in the NY mountains going up to 66 with rain.

    Didn’t watch the Trump thing. Checked twitter in the middle of the night. Not surprised.
    Just popping in – have to go do some writing.
    Have a good day

    • I didn’t watch the tRump thing either and I saw you when I was up in the middle of the night.

      It is not shocking that the media fawned over him. They need for us to have a normal president because they have no clue how to cover a White House that wants to destroy America. At every turn, they show themselves to be spineless access-seekers, selling out our democracy for a kind word from their abuser.

  9. Good morning, Moosekind! Still dark here in NoVa, the streets are shiny with wet, and it’s 55 F. already at 6:24 a.m. It’s going up to 75 F. today with violent winds and rain later.

    Will be back later to see what everyone’s up to—stay kewl!

  10. Good morning, meese! Wednesday …

    It is 36 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 34. Mixed precipitation, light snow and isolated flurries are in the forecast. We have a couple of days in the 30s then warming up again on the weekend.

    I was awakened in the middle of the night and could not get right back to sleep so I watched Twitter for a while. By that time, the pundits were already on the reviews of the reviews of the speech. Good thing! The first takes were awful. As Trix said: “PREDICTION: Trump’s gonna make all of the reporters/pundits praising him for pivoting look like fking idiots within the next 24 hours.”

    Meanwhile, in Realworldia, the EPA is being dismantled, the Attorney General has declared that he will no longer investigate shootings by police, and Republicans are planning to destroy healthcare in America.

    See all y’all later!

  11. Enjoyed not watching the Orange Menace last night, got my dvr down to only 40% full. Leaving work early today to pick up a month’s supply of daily lenses. And really finally do the thing I needed to do with my mom’s estate. (last time I tried, they were closed for President’s Day). Brain is playing loud, crunchy Get On Your Boots (“you don’t know how beautiful, you don’t know how beautiful you are” — and I’ve never seen tis video before, it’s very spacey): https://youtu.be/JcDNilZbZg8

    And we supposedly are going to have a cold front come through today, but still have a high of 71.

  12. Morning dear Meese!

    MPLS/St Paul weather: High of 37. There was a bit of snow over a sheen of ice on the roads. Made for a pokey, slid-ey drive to work.

    What a coincidence, I didn’t watch thing either. I did see a photo of the assembled Dems, most liberally accented by white outfits. Good on them!

  13. Good evening (morning) Meese. :) Going to try to sleep as it’s 10:12 pm here in Singapore and I’m hoping I’m not terribly jet-lagged.

    {{{HUGS}}} to everyone and in particular to {{bfitzinAR}}

    • {{{Basket}}} – thank you for the {{{HUGS}}} and hope you get some good sleep and wake up un-jet-lagged. ;)

  14. Started the new month at 40 heading for 55 and sunny. Should get a good bunch of electricity generated today which is always nice. Light frost predicted for in the morning but otherwise “winter, what winter?”

    It was so nice to finish February will fully funding gtghawaii and slksfca – and jtg got some donations via PayPal (so didn’t show up on the widget) and a few graphic sales so while we didn’t make his goal, he’s OK. I’ve got Street Prophets Helping Humpday to finish before 3 central. (Address to Congress? pvl45 actually addressed Congress? gee, I missed that. heh.)

    Gotta get some stuff done before my chiro appt just after coffee break/before lunch. Hope this will be simple to fix. I feel better but that’s not saying much considering how much it hurt originally. Still, I’m functional – and more functional than I was yesterday, so that’s good. Bright the day and wind to thy wings, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

  15. Good morning, 44 and cloudy in Bellingham. Most of the snow is gone but the mountains around us are still covered so the air is cold. But the streets are safe again so I’m looking forward to doing some errands today.

    I just couldn’t watch the speech last night, and the comments on twitter this morning have made me turn that off too. His agenda is dangerous and speaking complete sentences in a more normal voice changes nothing. One bit of good advice……..

    Dan Pfeiffer‏
    @danpfeiffer

    If Trump’s speech — and the fawning media reaction to complete sentences — made you mad get up tomorrow and go organize to stop his agenda

      • {{{Diana}}}

        I think you might feel even more homesick when you see the changes in other parts of Singapore. Thankfully (?), some things haven’t changed… yet.
