Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: Sept. 22nd through Sept. 28th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will now split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the link.

    Good morning, meeses! Friday …

It is 63 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 64. Thunderstorms are in the forecast.

Sometimes it’s the crime, sometimes it’s the cover-up. Sounds like the Trump Articles of Impeachment will have both! I am not sure I agree with an impeachment vote around Thanksgiving, I prefer it goes into 2020 so that it is fresher in people’s minds when they vote next year. Although the prospect of long drawn out hearings – and the posturing on both sides – is not pleasing either. We really aren’t very good at this messaging thing after 8 years out of power.

Can’t stay, busy day – see all y’all later!

She does not deserve forgiveness, which is a ridiculous concept anyway. What she needs is reeducation camp.

People use “forgiveness” as a get out of jail free card. There is no forgiving the hatred that is in that woman’s heart. People, when they are drunk, don’t channel complete strangers, that was her without the filters.

He said if I shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue, I will get away with it.

What part of this do Trumpanzees not understand? Would they like to be the “someone” that Thing shoots on Fifth Avenue?

They know the “someone” shot on Fifth Avenue will be BIPOC. & probably dressed better than he is, so “uppity”.

I find “a nearby officer ignored her when she asked for help” deeply troubling.

Woke up at 4:30 again. Grrr. Maybe if I eat dinner the minute I get home, finish eating before 6:30 or 7….. Anyway, eating my overnight oats, drinking tea. Got in a .75 mile walk, and it’s 75 degrees. 100s forecast all weekend. The Texas Tribune fest is this weekend, and I have several free things I put on my schedule. A friend from college is coming, he’s running a panel; I’m not going to any of the things you pay for though, way out of my league. I do want to see the MSNBC booth, though (even if Lawrence O’Donnell did kinda insult my city last night) Here’s the song I played in my head walking: Discotheque.

Good Friday morning, Meese, and it’s another fair, rainless day in Ashburn! The current temp. is 56 delightful degrees Fahrenheit, on its way up to 83 F. Yesterday the sky loomed with black clouds so menacing I thought for sure we’d get rain. Nupe! Not here and not in Fairfax, where I went to pick up the kids from the school bus stop.

Did I mention that Miss Pink Cheeks insists on going to the public library every Tuesday so she can return her current books and get new ones? This isn’t a school-mandated activity—it’s something she wants to do because she loves reading.

This morning I have three activities to accomplish (might get two of them done), and this afternoon I have quarterly book club, wherein we all try to guess the subject of the biography the various participants have read. I have to leave early, though, because we’re going to see “Downton Abbey.” After that we plan to have lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant.

Yesterday I was glued to C-SPAN all morning, so got nothing done. I’d like to wish for a quiet news weekend but have little hope or faith that will happen.

Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

House leadership announced that the impeachment committees will work through the recess, so probably no rest for anyone! I am watching for the Orange Orshole to have a complete meltdown as the narcissistic injury of finally being held to account for his actions renders him unable to function. I wonder what it would take for Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and get him away from the nuclear codes? There has to be some point where even he worries about what an out-of-control president could do.

The overnight in Fay., AR was 67 and it’s 69 now. Heading for mid 80s and even sunny today. 🌞👍😁 Yesterday cleared off in the afternoon so I got my walk and we generated 10.7 KWHs. The m-t-d is 315.5 and we’re got 4 more production days counting today. As much as I am looking forward to Autumn weather – and I am – I hope it holds off until I get my firewood situation situated.

earicicle’s friends have covered her until next Friday at the extended-stay hotel. Truth to tell, I wish she could afford to actually live there. & the Section 8 voucher would cover it of course. She’s safe – feels safe which is even more important – there’s enough kitchen equipment to call it an efficiency, a laundry room on site, and housekeeping to deal with the cleaning. But that’s life. Only wealthy folks can afford to live in a “service flat”. Meanwhile the Social Worker has a lead on a 1-bedroom apartment for her. So definitely prayers and invocations for that. Aji’s situation isn’t getting any better (which means it’s getting worse) mostly because to do so would require regular sales of Wings’s work so they have the revenue flow to pay for pre-winter repairs as well as the testing & treatment she needs and the surgeries Wings needs (his knees have been bone-on-bone for a couple of years now). Sales of authentic Native jewelry of the silver-and-stone “high end” variety requires confidence in the economy. Which we haven’t had for years. But some blessed soul anonymously dropped $1K into Ona’s GFM last night bringing it to $13K and I know some folks are donating via PayPal (Josh Mahony did last night, bless him, which I only know because he DM’d me to ask for the PayPal address) so they’re getting closer to what they need to get Ona to the rehab/treatment center in Denver. (Hold the Good Thought for Fineena, too. She needs cataract surgery but doesn’t have the money for deductible & copays even though she does have Medicare.)

    There’s a cat on my lap, coffee then a walk in my future. I’m OK – all my worries are for other folks. And my prayers (or whatever). Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

My friend, the police always ignore women, especially black women. Remember the women who called the police about the screaming, naked 14-year-old Vietnamese boy running down the hallway trying to get away from Kenneth thing, the pedophile that tortured his victims before butchering and eating them?

The police ignored the women. The Vietnamese boy died in the most horrible manner imaginable because Kenneth thing (my mind is blocking his surname) caught him.

An investigation into corruption and self-dealing is right in Kamala Harris’ wheelhouse. I hope that this exposure makes people realize just how smart she is and how she would make an excellent president!

Good morning, Moosekind! It’s a completely overcast morning, with a temp. of 68 F. going up to a loathsome 89 F. (sorry, anotherdemocrat, but to us that’s hot). I’ve got to gulp down some breakfast, get dressed, and then head out to knock on doors for the November election.

I’m dreading it. Never have I forgotten the awful experience I had in 2008, knocking on doors in the “rich part” of my neighborhood for Obama and the reception I received. Ugh.
However, one must be willing to take one for the team.

I woke up at the tiresome hour of 5 a.m., got up at 5:30, and treated myself to a junior cup of tea before the real early morning tea arrived at 6:45. I noticed to my displeasure that it was completely dark at 6:30 a.m. this morning. Yesterday evening it was completely dark by 7:30 p.m.

Princesspat, are you getting snowed on while the rest of us are sweltering? Wishing a good day to all at the Pond, and if it starts raining heavily at 9:30 a.m., thereby liberating me from a task I find rather unpleasant, why—I shan’t mind at all.

    Good morning, meeses! Saturday …

It is 55 degrees in Madison with an expected daytime high of 63. Cloudy skies with storms later tonight and into tomorrow.

Eek! I started this comment at about 9am and then got distracted – 30 minutes plus later I will finish by saying “not much to say!” Nancy Pelosi’s presser from Thursday had some good things about the impeachment inquiry and, as usual, the transcript is part of the Fighting Back post.

Yesterday I was on the road, today I slept in to recover and now I have to get my day started.

    See all y’all later!

We’ve inched up to 73 so far this morning heading for mid 80s again in Fay., AR. It’s sunny at the moment but we’ve got afternoon clouds definitely and showers maybe in the forecast. Yesterday we got 11.8 KWHs and the m-t-d is 327.8 so 350 is definitely possible in the 3 production days we have left. IF…We shall see what we shall see.

    I’m avoiding just about everything these days. Boosting Dee’s twitter roundups and Aji’s sales & stuff. Boosting Native and environmental stuff. Keeping in touch with friends. Otherwise playing a lot of Freecell when I’m online. & worrying about people – especially the ones I’m not seeing online when they’re normally there. So praying a lot. Or whatever. Taking care of cats. Making sure I eat properly. Doing what I can to help those I can. Keepin’ on keepin’ on. Bright the day, Meeses. {{{HUGS}}}

Good morning, 45 and partly sunny in Bellingham. Dale, our sil, died yesterday so her painful cancer struggle is over. I’m relieved her suffering has ended but tears are flowing for her family. We will all be together on Sunday at their home for a goodbye brunch.

Yesterday was a long day, starting early for Ron with a dreaded colonoscopy exam. Some biopsies were taken but we’re not worried. The prep was hard on him, and he was slow to recover from the meds but he seems to be himself this morning. We also had a flat tire, but our son helped me with the logistics of getting that fixed. Four tires are expensive!

I’m hoping today will be quiet and restful. My best wishes to all.
