Week-long Welcomings from Moosylvania: November 12th

Welcome to The Moose Pond! The Welcomings posts give the Moose, old and new, a place to visit and share words about the weather, life, the world at large and the small parts of Moosylvania that we each inhabit.

Welcomings will be posted at the start of each week (usually Saturday night with a Sunday date). To find the posts, just bookmark this link and Voila! (which is Moose for “I found everyone!!”).

The format is simple: each day, the first moose to arrive on-line will post a comment welcoming the new day and complaining (or bragging!) about their weather. Or mentioning an interesting or thought provoking news item. Or simply checking in.

So … what’s going on in your part of Moosylvania?

NOTE: The comments page will split off after 20 or so left margin comments with the most recent comments on the current page. To see the older comments, scroll to the bottom of the page (right before “Leave A Reply”) and use the Pages Tool to view previous pages, shown here with 3 pages of comments available and Page 2 circled.

  1. Good “morning”, Motley Meese! The week begins …

    Morning low of 50 degrees in the Desert Southwest with an expected daytime high of 77. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Have a great day, all y’alls!!

  2. Sunday Meese. 30 degrees here in Kingston, going up to 43.

    Wrote this last year to celebrate Diwali

  3. Good morning. Yesterday was fun, greeting people outside the State Library and telling them about the programs. It was chilly, but never actually rained. There’s one speaker I’m going to try to see today after church. Got my tea steeping, watching the local news. We might get as much as an inch of rain today, yay!

  4. Good Sunday morning, Moosekind. It’s 42 F. in Ashburn, on its way up to 52 F. It’ll be a good day to eat onion soup for lunch. It’s also cloudy. Yesterday was glorious but yrs truly was too ill to go for a walk.

    Just saw a photo of my trans grandchild on FB. Daughter is coping with the change very well—kudos to her! It’s not easy for her or for anyone else who knew the child from birth, but it’s the child’s right to live life as they choose. They just got engaged, in fact.

    What else…still feeling a bit ill, but better than yesterday. Going to run to the store for cold meds before the next hour chimes.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond!

  5. It’s 46 heading for 64 and sunny at the moment. Yesterday we generated 6.66 KWHs which nicely brought the m-t-d up to 66 and on track (barely) for 180.

    Too much evil in the world. Writ both large and small. I acknowledge it but have to stop focusing on it and do what I can. Which is mostly boost stuff. So that is what I will do.

    Nothing appears to be new with anybody. We’re all trucking along. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  6. Good morning, 46 and cloudy outside my window today. I can finally see bare branches on the old maple trees, but the lawn is covered with leaves again. The vine maples and aspens in the side gardens still have leaves so we’ve got at least two more weeks of garden cleanup. Today will be busy with flowers, food and family but it should be a fun day. Time to get dressed and on task. As always my best wishes to all.

  7. Monday Meese. 22 degrees here in Kingston, going up to 46. Got up in the middle of the night to let the dogs out – saw Tim Scott trending on TwitX and wrote this lol

    The Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses and La Colmena Cimarrona, led by women, battle from their respective fronts to resolve the multiple needs faced by residents of Vieques.

  8. Good morning. Got my walk in, it’s chilly (55) but not bad. Yesterday was nice — went to a panel at the Book Festival on the crazy American health care system. My friend’s daughter’s book is Up The Down Escalator; about her MS diagnosis and she is still practicing medicine — she said that’s one message she wanted to get out, that yes MS is a terrible disease, but you can still do things. Anyway, here I am at the office. Maybe people will think we’re closed for Veteran’s Day.

  9. Good morning, meeses! Monday …

    It is 57 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 79. Sunny skies are in the forecast.

    Tim Scott, a Senator from the Clarence “I see no discrimination against Black People” Thomas wing of the Republican Party, is suspending his campaign. That he thought he could win a primary when his party is the political home of white supremacy was laughable in the first place. In order to win the presidency in 2024, the Republican Party voters will need to be monolithic – they can’t lose any of their base or demoralize any of their rabid MAGAts. That is why we need to do our damnedest to peel off Independents who lean R and non-insane Republicans who will put the country over their tax breaks and get them to vote for Joe Biden. Some days it seems disheartening but we have no option but to keep plugging away.

    I did not get a chance to run the maintenance on the Motley Moose web site and hope to get to it later today. I spent all day – literally – on a project that was due this morning and which I thought was a lot closer than it was. I did not get the project done but will finish up later this morning and get that off my to-do list.

    The moon is already waxing and is now at 0.1% illumination – I need to catch some of that waxing moon energy and get to it. :)

    See all y’all later!

  10. Good Monday morning, Moosekind! Another beautiful but bone-dry day has dawned in Ashburn. (If it doesn’t rain pretty soon, we’ll be Ashburned.) Right now it’s 37 F., going up to 59 F.

    I’m in a superb*tchy mood this morning because a member of the Bio Book Club keeps trying to patronize me. It has occurred to me, looking at my calendar for this week, that I’m participating in too many activities. After Christmas I’m going to terminate no fewer than four of them and perhaps more.

    But enough about that. Had another absolutely terrible night, not sure why. Couldn’t get to sleep despite the night-time cold meds., up and down like a jack-in-the-box all night long, bad dreams when I did sleep, yadda yadda yadda.

    The world news is terrible. Innocent babies and civilians in Palestine are being bombed to death! Certainly, IDF has the right to punish Hamas, but Bibi has definitely gone off the deep end. Don’t know why the news media keeps blaming Biden—he’s the president of this country, not Israel. Oh, but it’s fashionable to blame Biden, I forgot. Last Tuesday’s Democratic victories were bad news for Biden and for Democrats in general, of course.

    Why? Because the fact that we won this time on abortion rights means that we can’t win next year on the same platform! The Rethugs think women will forget about Dobbs. They’re so stupid they fail to take into consideration that women of childbearing age are reminded once a month of why they need the right to abortion and contraception.

    Duh. Now I am going to pipe down and wish a good day to all at the Pond. New moon tonight, Moosekind!

  11. It’s 42 going to 72 and clearing off to be sunny. We generated 6.5 KWHs yesterday and are still on track for 180.

    Fineena’s in a lot of pain and can’t walk very well or far. She also talked to her sister yesterday. So she was very grumpy last night. But she’s at least got a visiting nurse intake meeting this afternoon, there are Rx waiting for her when she can manage to get out that should help with the symptoms and maybe the pain, and her doctor is working on referrals to her various specialists so they can track down the cause ASAP. A refreshingly different attitude from the rest of the doctors in that clinic Fineena was stuck with while her own doctor was out of the country.

    There’s not much good nationally and nothing good internationally right now. At least as far as I can tell. Small vendors have had a lousy year and it doesn’t seem to be getting better even with the holiday season. Crowdfunders have also had a lousy year with originally small asks turning into big ones as they lose their cars or homes or both. sigh. But my son came by yesterday for a short visit and was looking forward to the Diwali celebration at his gurdwara last night. There is Light in the world.

    Off to do what I can by boosting. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  12. Good morning, 46 and partly sunny outside my windows today. We enjoyed our family fun yesterday….. tasty food, pretty flowers, happy dogs. It was nice to be together. I’ve got ice on my knees this morning but oh well. Arthritis is hard to manage at times, and I did push my limits. So I’ll stay quiet this morning and let them rest. Best wishes to all.

  13. Tuesday Meese. 33 going up to 48 with rain here in Kingston. Last night we had a few snowflakes.

  14. Good morning. Walk done, I cut it short, kept feeling like I was going to fall — not dizzy, just skittish. Did get a mile in, just exactly. So glad I have these 2 wfh days.

    • {{{anotherdemocrat}}} That’s not good. Maybe inner ear infection? Or hopefully minor & temporary issue caused by the root canal? Anyway, Healing Energy & moar {{{HUGS}}}

  15. Good Tuesday morning, Meese. It’s another gorgeous, dry day, 45 F. now, going up to 57 F. The winds are going to become very bothersome, right at the time I was going to participate in the NRA vigil. So glad I’m not going today! I have a list of four activities I’m going to cut back on, and that’s high on the list.

    I have two deadlines to work on for the quarterly and a short play to write today. I need to get this stuff done. The Cast Party is this afternoon, so I’m looking forward to seeing my team again.

    I wish the news would improve, both war-wise and wise-wise. (Isn’t that awful terminology?) The media are determined to bring down Biden, who so far has been the best president of my conscious lifetime. I was born when FDR was still president. It’s interesting to notice how Eleanor Roosevelt was Hillaried before Hillary appeared on the scene. Patriarchy is so vile!

    What else…still plowing away at Elizabeth Jenkins’ fascinating biography, Elizabeth the Great. She truly deserved the appellation, “Gloriana.”

    I will not have time to make the Hot Lips cookies yet, but perhaps by the Drama Club meeting on Saturday, I will. Anyway, I have to buy the cashews.

    That’s all my news today, Moosekind! Unlike what they promised two days ago, there will be NO RAIN on Friday. Bummer.

    Wishing a good day to all at the Pond.

  16. It’s 48 going to 70 and fairly sunny – at least at the moment. Yesterday we generated 6.2 KWHs and the m-t-d at 78.8 is still (barely) on track for 180.

    The world sux & our govt is helping it suck. Yes, I’ll vote & I’ll vote blue but I’m not going to pretend we aren’t enabling genocide in other countries and committing it in our own. Whether deliberated targeted by the Rs or collateral damage in the name of a good economy by Dems, dead is still dead. The best I can say for us is that there are fewer dead under Dems than under Rs. Which makes no difference at all to the dead and their communities but is still harm reduction.

    Fineena had a sort of productive day yesterday. Between a friend & a neighbor she got her meds. The visiting nurse intake person, though hours late, was nice and has set up a rotation for Fineena to get someone to wrap her leg (they’re hoping compression will help reduce the swelling) and someone in for PT with her back. So that’s good.

    I’ve got lemon muffin bread in the oven and the house is beginning to smell most sentimental. Need to get going on my boosting. Holding the Good Thoughts for everybody. {{{Meeses}}}

  17. Good morning, meeses! Tuesday …

    It is 59 degrees in Tucson with an expected daytime high of 79. It was overcast when I got up and sunny now but the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies. I think there will be rain later in the week.

    I have some errands to run and it will, thankfully, keep me from looking at the news.

    See all y’all later!

  18. Good morning, 39 and foggy outside my windows today. I rested the day away yesterday and fortunately my legs still respond to ice, elevation and rest. I’m grateful they do but I do get restless and crabby from just laying around. I want to be outdoors today but will work in my sewing room and at my desk as I should :) Best wishes to all.

  19. Wednesday Meese. 28 going up to 52 here in Kingston.
