TGIF!

Morning meese…

I’ve mentioned my belief, and so have you all for that matter, about the role the xtian fundies have played in bringing Trumpism to life. Their mantra hasn’t really been that different for over a century now.

http://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h3806.html

The rise of Fundamentalism began as a reaction to liberal and progressive views held by Americans in the mid-19th century. One view they reject, held by scholars who employ the methods of biblical criticism¹, is that the first five books of the Bible (Pentateuch) were not composed by Moses.

In addition, the influx of non-Protestant immigrants at the turn of the 19th century alarmed conservative Christian ministers. In the midst of accelerated fragmentation of Christian denominations and attempts to bring “modernism” into American churches and seminaries, Fundamentalists rushed in to combat the swing of the pendulum toward liberalism.

Strong advocates of separatism, modern Fundamentalists are staunchly opposed to communism, while many are also opposed to the United Nations and ecumenical activities, especially by the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches. They are not in favor of working with those of different opinions and beliefs. At the extreme, some hold a theory of international conspiracy in which the world is moving toward a one-world government system that will be led by the “Antichrist.”

Some Fundamentalists advocate a more stringent code of ethics that prohibits even modest consumption of alcohol, dancing, mixed bathing, gambling or such secular cultural activities as watching movies or listening to rock `n roll music. Included in that code is a more conservative dress code that prohibits women from wearing pants and men from having long hair.

This is where the greedy money hungry bastards saw an opening to use xtian fundies as a foil for their dreams of political domination.

Fundamentalism experienced a re-emergence in popularity during the 1970s and ‘80s. The Christian right wing — comprising segments of conservatism, classical liberalism, and those directly opposite of left-wing politics — gave birth to such organizations as the Moral Majority and others.

In 1979, four writers from The Christian Voice left over issues regarding who should control that publication. Then they recruited televangelist Jerry Falwell and founded the Moral Majority. Promulgating a return to traditional values — specifically Christian values — the Moral Majority became the largest conservative lobbying group in the United States. They also stood for the preservation of individual and corporate rights through constraints on a strong central government, and lobbied both Republicans and Democrats to:

Outlaw abortion,
suppress homosexual rights,
endorse its vision of family life, and
censor media firms that promote what they call an “anti-family” agenda.

Also in 1979, Fundamentalists in the U.S., including the Moral Majority, became strong supporters of Israel, regarding the Jews as important in the fulfillment of their vision of Armageddon, the biblical place where the final battle will be waged between the forces of good and evil.

The Moral Majority was dissolved in 1989 following an exposé written by Memphis reporter Mike Clark, that resulted in suspicion of unethical involvement between the group and the Republican Party. Jerry Falwell, deemed the father of the modern “religious right” movement, organized the Moral Majority Coalition in 2004 and agreed to lead the organization for four years. Dubbed the “21st century resurrection of the Moral Majority” by Falwell, that organization took credit for returning George W. Bush to the presidency and saw the election of many pro-life proponents to national political office.

Perceived by many as fanatical, Fundamentalists failed to garner enough support to fully accomplish its agenda of a return to time-honored values. In order to survive, the movement faces a dilemma between obtaining broader support by moving toward a more moderate viewpoint, and facing the almost certain possibility of losing many conservative backers in the process.

I find Fundamentalists as the antithesis to liberalism and the opposite of moving forward and to get back to where we need to be it’s going to take Christians with common sense to win this fight against the hard movement right. While I have nothing against anyone, Christians included, doing what they believe in, when they try and impose their ideas on others is when I draw the line.

Fucking Rudy is back…These fools, Bernie included, can’t stand to keep their faces out of the limelight.

The grifting is unbelievable with these assholes…They just seem to stop themselves…When is enough money enough??????

Fuck you Lindsey

It shouldn’t need to be so f*cking hard, it’s just life on earth ($750 donation match for AIDS Ride)

Hi there. So most of my diaries are about the AIDS Walk or the AIDS Ride. And they all have U2 videos — this one will, too. But the title comes from a song from a different band. Shocking, I know. But the man who wrote it said this is the song he’s proudest of in his career, and it’s gorgeous and true and heartbreaking — and I knew I should use it for an appeal to the heart about the Hill Country Ride for AIDS. Today starting at 11:30, my team, the Wheelie Nelsons, has a matching challenge, so please donate anything you can.

So back to the title. Snow Patrol released this song a few days ago, and I’m obsessed. I can’t stop listening to it. Here’s the chorus:

This is not love you’ve had before
This is something else
This is something else
This is not the same as other days
This is something else
This is something else
Shouldn’t need to be so fucking hard
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth
It doesn’t need to be the end of you, or me
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth

The lyricist is writing about his own struggles, but the words are so universal — they made me think about the difficulties people have with HIV/AIDS. Here’s a link to the video (of the 389,000 views, I think I’m probably 1,000 of them)

And here are some quotes about helping, matched with heartwarming stories about how your donations have helped people:

Marie T. Freeman
If you’re too busy to give your neighbor a helping hand, then you’re just too darned busy.

Sam is 50 years old and has been living with AIDS for over 16 years, receiving assistance from AIDS Services of Austin periodically for ten years. There she has found a connection with others who have the same needs. She has an outlet to give back by exchanging her story and encouraging others to live in a positive way. The help she has received through ASA’s Food Bank and the Medical Nutrition Therapy program has truly transformed her life.Sam became a success story because of YOU who have donated.  There are thousands more who need you too, and the numbers keep rising.

Helen Keller

Believe, when you are most unhappy, that there is something for you to do in the world. So long as you can sweeten another’s pain, life is not in vain.

Maria is 27 years old.  She had been positive for several years when she discovered she was pregnant. She moved into Roosevelt Gardens, where she had a nice place to call home with rent she could afford. With the support of Project Transitions’ HIV Services and the David Powell Health Center, she had a healthy pregnancy and her baby boy was born healthy and HIV negative. Now she is back at work, and thanks to you has the resources and support she needs to care for her son.We want to keep people like Maria healthy. People with AIDS deal with so many other illnesses that exacerbate each other and the agencies we fund address the full care continuum. Staying healthy pre-empts expensive illnesses that make people miss work or lose their jobs – it keeps people going. For every $100 spent on keeping people healthy and on their health care, we save $1,000 on expensive emergency room visits. It just makes sense not just for our hearts, but also for the whole community.

There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed.

Project TransitionsProject Transitions is dedicated to providing hospice, housing and support to people affected by HIV/AIDS in a compassionate and caring environment.  Its hospice, Doug’s House, is the only facility in central Texas dedicated to in-house medical care for patients with AIDS and AIDS-related complications.  Project Transitions also provides affordable, transitional housing with supportive services for individuals and families affected by HIV through three housing programs: Roosevelt Gardens, Highland Terrace and Community Housing. These programs are partially supported by the proceeds from its thrift store, Top Drawer, which has been open since 1993.  Project Transitions’ goal is to help transition the homeless by providing support to gain the life-skills needed to live independently, and then move into long-term, affordable housing of their own.  projecttransitions.org

Morning Meese!!!

Comey is just another stupid Republican when it comes right down to it. He might not be totally insufferable like most conservatives but what he did leading up to the election was a stupid intolerable one sided act that sealed the fate we now find ourselves in.

Seems like everything is getting a little dicey in Trump world lately with more and more shit piling up every day. I don’t think we have too much longer before the ceiling falls in on Trump and a large contingent of the deplorable right!

Huge matching donation for Hill Country Ride for AIDS

Starting at noon central time Thursday, there is $15,000 in donations to be matched for the Hill Country Ride for AIDS. Meaning: AIDS agencies in the Austin area can (will?) get $30,000 donated in just one day!  Please donate at my HCRA page. Here is information from the Ride about where those dollars go:

Why is the Hill Country Ride for AIDS So Important?

Thanks to our amazing riders, volunteer crew, donors, and sponsors, the Hill Country Ride for AIDS has raised more than $8.5 million since the inaugural year of 1999. You should be so proud!

Below are just some of the many services your DONATION dollars do for thousands in our Central Texas community.

LOOK AT THE POWER OF EVERY DOLLAR!

$35

  • Covers one rapid HIV test – we know that 40% of people who are HIV+ don’t know it yet. Through testing, we can get them into life saving care, and further reduce the spread of the HIV virus.
  • Food voucher for emergency needs – many of those living with HIV are also living in poverty, and can’t afford their medication and nutritious food. This makes sure they get the food they need.
  • Medical co-payment for one patient – keeping people in consistent medical care keeps them healthy and connected to services. We know this saves lives.

$60

  • Buys someone nutritious food for one month – A month of nutritious food allows someone living with HIV to focus on staying healthy without worrying about the basic need of having enough to eat.
  • Pays for a one month’s supply of medical prescription co-pays – Medications can reduce the HIV virus so much that it keeps someone healthy and also reduces the risk of passing it along.
  • Provides a counseling and support group session for someone newly diagnosed – We know that many feel isolated when first diagnosed, and that staying social and connected gets people into care earlier, allowing them to stay healthy.

$120

  • Provides prevention education for 440 people – 20% of Americans still believe you can catch HIV from drinking after someone. 60% say they are unsure what safe sex is. Education is one of the most important tools in reducing new infections.
  • Pays for a specialty medical appointment – Many people with HIV/AIDS have unique medical complications. It’s good to know a specialty medical professional can help them out.
  • Provides life skills training – This helps people who are well to learn to present themselves in a job interview, find housing, learn to read, gain computer training, learn nutrition, and discover their self esteem.

$250

  • Keeps someone healthy with one month of medications – Medications can reduce the HIV virus so much that it keeps someone healthy and also reduces the risk of passing it along.
  • Provides 7 hours of outreach to find people and get them into care – If you are homeless or unemployed, your HIV may not be at the top of list of your priorities. By finding people and making sure they get the care they need, lives are saved.
  • Provides 3 family counseling sessions – It can be devastating for a family when a member is diagnosed, and we know that an intact family unit promotes health and provides a built in support network.

$500

  • Pays for a month of rent for one family in supportive housing – Assistance with food, daily chores, trips to medical appointments, and social support create a foundation for continued health and a step toward independence.

$1,000

  • Gives 450 home cooked meals for hospice patients – When in hospice, there are often unique food needs. You can make sure that final days are spent with favorite, delicious meals that don’t upset someone’s stomach.
  • Pays for an outpatient procedure for an uninsured client – many with HIV/AIDS do not have insurance. You can cover the expenses related to a needed procedure.
  • Provides four months of medication – Medications can reduce the HIV virus so much that it keeps someone healthy and also reduces the risk of passing it along.

Every dollar counts double from noon central time till the match is met. So please — even if you can just donate $5; it’ll become $10 so that’s great.  Let’s use up all the money the match has & get lots of people help! Or as my boys would put it,  write a world where we can belong to each other, and sing it like no other — love is bigger than anything in its way.

Again, here’s my link for the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, please donate & help people with HIV & AIDS in the Austin area.

Morning pond dwellers!

Lots of highs and some lows …So many coming at us so fast it’s hard to keep up. Dotard has been rather quiet lately giving us a little respite from his stupidity on Twitter..Most of what we’ve seen lately with his name attached is not the blowhard. Too coherent and no misspells. Seems ever since Stormy hit he’s either had his phone confiscated or he’s actually listening to someone. Figuring that someone has to be Jarvanka.

The present day Peyton Place, alias the WH, is like SNL with Belushi, with out the comedy. Kinda like a food fight without the food. With Dotard doing all he can to fuck over everyone the deplorable moniker Hillary gave out fits all of them like a leather glove.

What will today show? It sure would be nice to see Bobby pull out some subpoenas today.

I expect next week to be a doozy as a lot of stuff is coming to a head and has to pop sooner rather than later.

Food Fight…

How true is this?

Excellent video about PR and the deplorable response of the Federal gov’t.

The school shooting has really got me to the point where I just want to grab a high powered rifle and start shooting Wayne LaPierre and all the asshole Cons that are running cover for the NRA. Have to throw in Dotard and Pence in my arcade game too. They might go first.

Or I just might go after them with a trusty flame thrower…Disregard my fantasies… :)

TGIF…Gov’t Shutdown Edition

Morning meese….

Well it looks like the gov’t shutdown overnight even after Chuck Schumer and Jowls McTurtle had a bi-partisan plan all ready to pass.

Enter side-left Rand Paul and his play for the limelight. After voting to pass the GOPTaxScam he should have just stayed in his seat and shut up. Everything he cried about was right on the money but he should have thought about it before he voted to pass the Scam of the century, allowing the deficit to be blown sky high.

Like the boy crying wolf when he invited the wolf over for dinner and found out he was on the menu.

It’s a wonder Chuck, Nancy and the Dems in Congress don’t want to do one of two things…Kiss Rand or laugh like hyenas because have no doubt the Cons were all set to make any shutdown look like it was Nancy and the Dems fault. No chance of that now thanks to Rand.

Could we be so lucky as for this to happen on the Republican side of the House…

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) made a unanimous consent request to expedite a vote on the budget measure shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday. Paul objected, however, demanding first a vote on an amendment to the bill that would reinstate spending limits that it removed. Unless Paul yields before midnight EST, the earliest the Senate will be able to vote on the measure is early Friday, an hour past the government funding deadline. And that is just a vote to end debate. After the Senate clears that hurdle, Paul could speak for another hour — as could other senators — before the Senate votes on final passage.

After the Senate, the bill would need to go to the House, move out of the Rules Committee, have House lawmakers adopt a rule governing debate for the bill and then get that last passage vote.

Rand smiling for the cameras…god, I hate all Republicans..

Dotard tweeted this at 7:30PM and i answered the dimwit.
