It Takes a Village is a reminder of Democratic Party values – especially the values of long time Democrats whose lives have been dedicated to helping people.

Greetings, Village People!
It’s day 69 of the Resistance to the regime of Trump and the Republican majority. The sheer level of tension and intensity is affecting everyone except those who are insulated by ignorance or devotion to bigotry.
One way to process situations and events which threaten to overwhelm us is to look for our own hidden perceptions through the use of symbols.
I’ve been fascinated by one such method of seeking understanding, Tarot cards, for many years. I don’t read often and I don’t read for others but I love the cards, love the deep layers of symbolism and love the way these things can coax out of a receptive consciousness new aspects of understanding about things we already know.
I have half a dozen decks or so, but like most people, the first exposure I had was via the Rider-Waite deck.
The cards were drawn by illustrator Pamela Colman Smith from the instructions of academic and mystic A. E. Waite, and published by the Rider Company.
Some imagery remains similar to that found in earlier decks, but overall the Waite-Smith card designs represent a substantial departure from their predecessors. The Christian imagery of previous decks cards was toned down, for instance the “Pope” card became the “Hierophant”, the “Papess” became the “High Priestess”.

Nevertheless, there is still a lot of Christian imagery in the illustrations, which appear to be set roughly in a medieval European environment.
Which brings me to something I ended up doodling with in Photoshop, and then before I knew it things had gone a little bit beyond doodling. I don’t really have a good excuse for this. Nevertheless I wanted to bring it out, in spite of the fact that it’s one of the rather craziest things I’ve done in a while, and coming from me, well, let’s just say that’s an interesting proposition.
Ready?

Once again, I’m continuing with my theme of historical political cartoons and what they can show us about our history, taught and untaught. This week, I’m focusing on unions and made the discovery that during the Gilded Age and beyond, the unions had a more mixed perception than I anticipated. There was still suspicion and distrust, largely because of the associations made between socialism and violent anarchists. Strikes were often portrayed as anti-American. However, the oligarchs of the time were increasingly viewed as a threat, and unions were often represented as a bulwark against them. Additionally, there was a rising independent, alternative (often socialist or union) media with their own political cartoons, which often countered that found in the general circulation media. (Socialist Newspapers by Circulation) Today, union membership is dropping just as their popularity is increasing (Unions More Popular), and how effectively the unions and voters respond to the anti-union efforts will determine their future.

Not feeling too good today so this is going to be an abbreviated tweetorama instead of one of my infamous rants..haha
Yes…Her….We started out in 2015 and even earlier, with me it was 1992, with Hillary Rodham Clinton as our hope and dreams as our first woman President!
Then the Democratic Party made the huge mistake of allowing this jerk to run as a Democrat even though he had always been against our party. First photo is how I see him 2nd photo is his worthless self. Kinda wonder after looking at the either photo why anyone would vote for him.
After the Saint of Vermont ruined everything (incoming CT) by colluding with Russia via Tad Devine we ended up with this foolish, moronic, selfish poor excuse for a human being who we are finding out is really related to Vladimir Putin because Putin took a dump and this is what came out…Aptly named DUMP.
Right now this lovable creature would be a better President. Looks a lot smarter than the illegitimate buffoon we have spending our money golfing in Palm Beach every wekend when he’s supposed to be doing his job. oops…Forgot…He has no idea how to do it.

Demonstrators hold signs in support of the Affordable Care Act at a gathering before the start of a protest march near the hotel where House and Senate Republicans are attending a retreat, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. January 25, 2017.
No matters what happens moving forward, democrats did the right thing. For the naysayers, the aca went far enough if IT SAVED ONE SINGLE LIFE. This is what separates us from republicans. Be proud.

Howdy friendly Village people!
I wasn’t sure how long it would take for events to converge in such a way as to render me without a coherent theme or idea for my Wednesday blog posting here at Moose Pond, but it didn’t take that long. That day is here. It may return. We can only hope for the best.
Tonight I’m going to be doing something unexpected and fun, going to a concert. Duran Duran. I’ve seen them before, it was a number of years ago. I’ll let you know my thoughts afterwards if I have any. In the meantime, here’s a semi-random collection of Things I hope you may enjoy or at least not be too bored by.
He’s sinking faster than a drowning man
He’ll grab a hold of anyone he can
Gun in his pocket and a heart of ham
Uncle Sam…
He’s dying faster than a rabid dog
Infect us all now he’s losing blood
Nose for trouble and a soul of rock
Smokey’s man…
Don’t drag me down
I don’t wanna drown
Your going down
(Hay) NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
There’s not much flesh
Just skin and bone
Cheeks sunk deep
Eyes popping wide
Don’t put out a hand to help him
This drowning man will bite it right off
Right off , Right off , Right off..
He’s selling faster than a magazine
Infect us all with his TV screen
He’s selling faster than a magazine
Infect us all with his TV screen
He’s selling faster than a magazine
Infect us all with his TV screen
He’s selling faster than a magazine
Infect us all with his TV screen
Don’t drag me down
I don’t wanna drown
Your going down
(Hay) NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA

I have to admit that preparing last week’s post on immigration depressed the hell out of me. When I do these posts, my goal is to take an unblinking look at our history, but with the awareness that while the “wars” may not have been won, battles have. While looking at our past attitudes on immigration, I had a hard time seeing our progress. So this week, I wanted something a bit more uplifting. One would think that imperialism would be the last topic I would choose, but this is one area where, as individuals, we’ve become marginally more aware, more sensitive, and occasionally more cautious. Whether or what we’ve learned as a country is an open question.

It’s been quite a busy week, one way and another.
Before we examine what the people thought back home about the Irish and German heads of government visiting the Orange House, let’s take a moment to look at the Dutch election.
